Lakshmi Viswanathan

Lakshmi Viswanathan, 86, of Ashland, passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023. Born in Kumbakonam, India, he was the son of the late Thirupurasundari and Lakshminarasimhan. He was the husband of 60 years to Gowri Viswanathan née Natarajan.

Viswanathan was a connoisseur of Einstein bagels, Bertuccis pizza, and birch beer. He was an avid lover of mathematics, his (restaurateur) wife’s cooking, and spending time with his family. A lifelong academic, you could usually find him answering questions on Quora, writing riddles, or sparring with his sons’ geometry teachers – disproving them using reductio ad absurdem.

Viswanathan is survived by his wife Gowri, sons Rajesh and Mohan, daughter-in-law Subasree, grandchildren Shreya, Kavya, and Pranav, and his siblings Krishnan, Padhu, Balu, and Hema.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 13th from 5-8pm at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton, 57 Hayden Rowe St.

A private family cremation service will be held on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Math Counts or Community Servings
