James William Gorman, 85, of Sherborn, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Josephine (Kaminsky) and John Gorman. He was the beloved husband to the late Sandra (Currie) Gorman.
Jim was a man of quiet strength, boundless dedication to family and friends, and an unwavering work ethic. He learned at a young age that hard work was the way forward to a rewarding life of service and stability. After putting himself through Northeastern University, earning a degree in electrical engineering, Jim enjoyed a long career at Raytheon working on various radar systems that supported US national defense. Outside of work, Jim enjoyed his homes in Sherborn and East Falmouth on Cape Cod, both of which he helped build. In Sherborn you could find Jim walking the trails through Green Lane, splitting wood with his dear friend Lenny, and volunteering for Sherborn’s Council on Aging and the Pilgrim Church. By far, Jim’s favorite place was his home on Cape Cod. He often said if you were “over the bridge” all your worries faded away. He especially loved boating and fishing with his grandchildren. Jim’s greatest honor was leading his family by example as a man of integrity, always ready to lend a helping hand with a smile and cache of dad jokes.
James is survived by three daughters, Tammi McGunnigle and her husband, John, of Niantic, Connecticut, Traci Lipman and her husband, Charles, of Hopkinton, and Kristen Gorman and her husband, Anthony D’Aoust, of Fairbanks, Alaska. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Eric and James, step grandchildren Molly and John, Olivia and Ella, Cassiar and Aghileen, and granddogs Finley, Joubin, and Phoebe.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1st from 12:30-1:30 pm at Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington Street. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm, Pilgrim Church, 25 South Main Street Sherborn. In lieu of flowers, the Gorman family is grateful for donations made in Jim and his wife Sandee’s memory to the Colson Lung Cancer Forum at Massachusetts General Hospital (https://giving.massgeneral.org/donate), please designate this particular program for a gift on the donation website.
