After the sadness and tears because Barbara’s life is over, I will smile because her life happened – a life well lived for almost 99 years. For 50 years, Barbara was an integral part of my life. We had a close relationship in spite of the geographical distance between us. It began when I was a young girl - in Jeddore, Nova Scotia, Canada where Barbara, Lindsay and the boys spent many summers. As I grew, so did the bond between us. Barbara was my “Spirited Mother”. We faithfully maintained contact across the miles. Numerous phone calls, cards, photographs, and hand-written letters were exchanged over the years. I travelled from Nova Scotia to Massachusetts to attend several special events in Barbara’s life, and later, I went the distance just so we could be together. She meant that much to me. We talked. We reminisced. We laughed. We cried. We hoped. We prayed. We made memories. I loved, respected and admired Barbara. I was truly blessed to have her in my life. I will miss her but have so many memories to hold close in my heart forever. So many reasons to smile as I remember a life lived well and well lived. Rest in Peace, My Spirited Mother.
