I had the pleasure of working with Arthur for 17 years with the City of Newton. He was a great guy who gave so much of himself. He cared deeply for Cathy and the boys and spoke of them often. Art was extremely knowledgeable and he shared his knowledge and experience with everyone. He was incredibly dedicated to his work. not only because of his unwavering work ethic, but also due to the fact that he had so many colleagues that were proud to call him a friend. He always wanted to help and he made everyone around him better in so many ways. Art leaves a lasting legacy of tangible improvements to so many facilities throughout Newton, but it is what those new facilities help support that he was really proud of. Every year, more than 10,000 students in the public school system experience a far better education in part due to the hard work and dedication of Art. The men and women of our Police and Fire Departments are better able to maintain public safety due to his work. Art completed projects that improved our environment and made the daily lives of Newton's residents better. Countless documents that Art authored have been sought out and used by dozens of communities around the state to help make their communities better. The legacy of Arthur Cabral is almost impossible to measure, but nonetheless it is both widespread and deeply impactful. It was hard watching Art's health decline. He never complained but we could see the subtle signs. He never let it slow him down even when it should have. We would try and encourage him to take his foot off the gas, but the man only knew one speed. I'm sure that he's up there right now watching a baseball game pain-free and feeling great. Until we meet again Art. Your friend, Josh.
